AMATEUR ATHLETICS MEET GOT RESPOND FROM THE PUBLIC :SUNGAI PETANI AS I SAW IT IN THE 50’S
Yearly Ibrahim School held its school sports day,so were some other primary schools around.The event got responded from the people ,parents and school children.Those days there were not many celebrations that can interact public attractions.Thus a school sports-day was considered a grand day to be watched about.Attendance was suppered.
Besides that Sungai Petani had 3 sports-clubs that ran athletics meets every year : The Central Kedah Telecoms AAA , Central Kedah PWD AAA and Central Kedah AAAU .Those 3 clubs did make great success in the selection of sportsmen and sportswomen for the state Kedah AAAU.Tan Fong Tin,been the talk of the town as she ran fast to break the existing record in the 100 yards dash.She was selected by Kedah AAAU for the MAAAU meet.So also S.Kurupiah was made the fastest man in 100 yards and 200 yards event.He also was chosen to represent Kedah in the MAAAU .
Ibrahim School 4X110 yards relay quartet flourished as the fastest quartet in the state school division.The 4 comprises Oziar Darus,Loh See Fook ,A Baskaran and P Nandarajah.......congratulation to Mr.S Veerasingham as the school coach.
Those were the days,gone and bygone.
