The Shoura Council has submitted a recommendation to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah to form a committee with the involvement of four ministries to discuss mechanisms to reduce the growing number of illegals in the Kingdom.

The proposal calls for a committee composed of the ministries of Foreign Affairs, Interior, Social Affairs and Labor. This committee must develop an overall view of the situation that will result first in the deportation of illegals and a method to prevent large numbers of illegals in the Kingdom in the future.

The recommendation stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs should discuss the problem with the illegal residents’ countries of origin.

The number of illegals is estimated at five million, according to the report, prepared by the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Council. The illegals are spread out in Makkah, Jeddah, Taif, Madinah, Yanbu, Riyadh, the Eastern Province, Asir, Najran and Jazan.

The Vice Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Council, Sadaka Fadel, told a local newspaper that the Council made this recommendation as part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ annual report.

He pointed out that illegal residents are responsible for 60 percent of reported crimes.

Fadel stressed that illegals pose a threat to the security of the country by participating in crimes of all kinds from drugs to alcohol, theft, prostitution, murder, filming and promoting pornographic films, as well as polluting the environment and hurting the country’s image.

He pointed out that illegals include Haj and Umrah overstayers as well as those who sneak across the border.
