We hostelites of Ibrahim School played a lot………..majority represented the school in all games except basketball and badminton…….chinese students manopolised in basketball and badminton…………..
In sports track and field events, indian students made the superiority…………..long distance track event and cross-country run, theirs all the way.
We participated in games till the school ended for Cambridge School Certificate Exam.
I vividly remembered our final cricket game………..nine of the boarders were selected to reperesent Kedah-Perlis Combined Schools ,played against the Penang Combined Schools at he Penang Free School ground…………7 of us would be sitting for CSC in just not less than 10 days……….but we couldn’t care less ,we played in the field , we answer papers in the hall………….
Penang Combined schools were confident ,got off to a fine start and scored 80 runs, losing only 3 wickets.Kedah-Perlis Combined made strategy , the rot then set in when Penang had to declare at 124 runs for 9 wickets.
We then made a disastrous start , losing 3 wickets for a just 3 runs.Myself and Mokhtar Ali had to make a stand to make the score 36 on the board………..Mokhtar was to make more runs , and I with my stubborn bat tried to tire their fast bowlers………we failed against the accurate bowling of Penang……….we were all out for a just 62 runs for 9 wickets
A replay was no more on the way……….we would leave school by then
The game was published in the Straits Echo………..our names were mentioned….then our names again appeared in all newspapers when we passed our Cambridge School Certificate the next year.
